EXCLUSIVE INTERVIEW: Gospel rap artist McTarpha a.k.a Dan-Gadara from Yola Talks to CBME correspondent.

We have plenty and lots of gospel rap or should i say hip pop artist in yola and the northeast at large, but only few have the kind of zeal and passion that our guest of today has. He goes by the name Mc Tarpha popularly known as Dan Gadara nicknamed after his hit track Dan Gadara which was released last year and took home an award. Unlike some Gospel rap Artist whose pictures and names we normally see on flyers and event posters of secular and entertainment programs an shows, Mc Tarpha is all about the gospel and i can boldly say he is a true Church Boi and a die heart Jesus Christ representer.  Last Month we had the opportunity to talk one on one with him and this was how it went.

QUESTION: Good day sir, please let’s meet you.

ANSWER: Mcdonald Usman Tarfa is my name aka McTarpha

QUESTION: How and when did you start music?

ANSWER: Wow! How & when I started music? Well it all started like play back in my home town (Garkida) when I will have to go to farm with my grandma and I’ll start singing … (well making noise by then) whenever  am tired and she’ll send me home. It developed to me loving music, I began to buy taps When I was in secondary school,  I later joined my church band then I formed a music group called (Heavenly Voice). By the year 2003 I started writing my songs officially.
I won’t say I started it from my mother’s womb or so but it grows with me as I become the McTarpha that I am today.

QUESTION: What inspire you as a gospel rap artist?

ANSWER: The word of God, life itself, challenges, my life,  circumstances surrounding it and the work of Christ on the cross of  Calvary.

QUESTION: What’s your passion and drive

ANSWER: To see the whole world, most especially the youth know Jesus (like I sang  in my song  ‘ THE WAY’), to know their place in God through Jesus Christ his son (like I sang in my song (‘GOBARA’ & ‘DAN GADARA’) giving hope to the hopeless.

QUESTION: How many albums/EP or mix tapes do you have to your name?

ANSWER: I have an album, an EP, two music videos and some singles to the glory of the Lord.

QUESTION: Any challenges?

ANSWER: Wow! Life itself is a challenge and without challenges we won’t strife to be better. The type of music I do RAP is not yet fully acceptable in this part of the world, the churches still fill like we are not singing Jesus music even some of the gospel (singers) ministers too and the other challenge is the financing of our projects.

QUESTION: Talking about challenges, being a hip-hop rap artiste in the northern part of Nigeria is hard, don’t you think? How did you then coup to have come this far and still pushing despite the low acceptance of rap music in the north?

ANSWER: Yeah its hard, But I must confess is been God’s grace so far. To come this far and to keep pushing it this far is still the grace of God and the passion I have for the gospel plus mehn! You got to put in a lot of hard work for you to stand the test of time

QUESTION: We are aware of your recent award at EGMA 2017 for the category of best video of the year (Dan Gadara video) what are your plans for the rest of 2018 and beyond?

ANSWER: Huh! I got a lot on my plate for 2018 and beyond. First of all I’ve released a single titled THE WAY which is online now and am working on shooting a music video to be released later this year. Am also working on my LP album which am believing God to drop this year too. Am also working on shooting my first two movies which will be premiered next year. Just like I said I got a lot on my plate for the world

QUESTION: Any last pointers shout out or word for your fans and fellow gospel artiste.

ANSWER: I’ll really want to thank God and the entire management of CBME, to my Pst Reverend Melchi Bano,  my friend and video director Jprado Joseph, Aso Theophilus, my entire family, Dr. B Afolabi and everyone that has supported my music and the ministry, thank you all.
To my fellow gospel artiste I say Weldon; keep the fire burning let no one take you away from your duty post (music & ministry).
